Superb Breeding For Sale at Bargain Prices
Want another Shelbourne Aston, World Class, Shelbourne Star, Droopys Lee etc etc?
I was down at Shelbourne Stud today and was looking at some superb specimens that are now available for sale. This breeding would not come on the market normally, and it is a sign of the times that these pups are available at prices that would have been reasonable 10 years ago.
It truly is a buyer's market.
Lot 1: COLLISION X SHELBOURNE JULIE. November 2009. 4 pups for sale (dogs and bitches)
Julie is by super sire Head Honcho out of current brood bitch of the year Queen Survivor, making her a half sister of the likes of World Class and Shelbourne Aston. Collision is the no.2 ranked sire in Australia.
Julie qualified to race in 18.02 at Thurles (top grade) but was injured and never raced. Julie is a 70lb absolute perfect specimen of a greyhound. This is Julie's first litter.
Lot 2: WESTMEAD JOE X SHELBOURNE LAURA. November 2009. 3 pups for sale (from 4dogs 4bitches)
Shelbourne Laura is by arguably the greatest racedog of the last couple of decades Brett Lee, put of Queen Survivor (see above). Laura was a top class racebitch winning the Coors Provincial Cup at Nottingham, the Mark Hill 625 at Coventry. Her CV boasts many many Open race wins, multiple Group 1 final appearances including the Grand Prix at the Stow, the Ladrokes Puppy Derby at Monmore, the Monmore Summer Stayers Classic, won heats of the Derby, won several Sky races, did fastest time of the year at Monmore 2006 and is actually the fastest bitch ever to run at Monmore ever.
This cross is proven to throw TOP CLASS. Shelbourne Laura's litter sister Droopys Maddy has thrown Droopys Lee (who only last night did the fastest time since July 05 when winning his semi final of the Gold Collar at Harolds Cross) to Westmead Joe's brother Westmead Hawk. She is also responsible for a very smart pup in Clarkeith Joy, who won an Open in 29.81 on Wednesday night at Hove (a very good run). The cross has also worked brilliantly in Loyal Rebel, another dog from this damline (by Westmead Hawk) who big things are expected from.
This is Laura's first litter. Be quick!
Lot 3. SHELBOURNE ASTON X SHELBOURNE STAR. August 2009. 4 pups for sale (from 5dogs 4bitches)
I think the phrase BRED IN THE PURPLE was invented for this kind of breeding. Shelbourne Aston is the reigning Irish Greyhound Of The Year after winning the 2008 Irish Derby and the 2008 Irish Champion Stakes.
Shelbourne Star was the Irish Marathon Greyhound Of The Year. She was first past the post and runner up in the English St Leger Classic. She was a finalist in many Group finals - the TV Trophy, the Coventry Leger, the Gold Vase at Romford (twice). She broke several track records - Rye House, Swindon, Coventry, Wimbledon and clocked year best times at Romford and Hove. She recorded the fastest 750m time by a pup at Clonmel. How good was this bitch eh?
Shelbourne Star has produced open class winners in all her litters to date...and yes they do stay!
Lot 4. WHERES PEDRO X SHELBOURNE DORA. July 2009. 4 pups for sale (from 3dogs and 5bitches)
Wheres Pedro is a comrade of Hallucinate, Carnage and Crash and has made an explosive start to his stud career in Australia where one of his first pups El Galo has won the Group 1 Adelaide and Brisbane Cups, the Group 2 Warrabool Cup and Bendigo Cup, and many others. His semen is now available in Ireland.
Shelbourne Dora is as near to being completely Irish as is possible being by Boherduff Light out of Queen Survivor. Ths is Dora's first litter.
Lot 5. HEAD BOUND X SHELBOURNE CAPRI. These pups are due this weekend and advanced booking is welcomed on these pups - I don't expect these to be too freely available.
Head Bound is the 2009 Irish Greyhound Review no.2 ranked stud dog and is showing well in all sire charts. Shelbourne Capri is a litter sister of Shelbourne Aston (see above) and was an open winner herself.
ALL THE PUPS ARE ATTRACTIVELY PRICED AT €1000 PER DOG PUP AND €800 PER BITCH PUP.
PICK 'N' MIX DEALS ARE AVAILABLE.

Hi Nigel
I would always try and linebreed to Westmead Flight or even Westmead Kim.
Droopys Kewell (3x3) or Droopys Maldini (4x3) look pretty on paper. The likes of Magical Captain or Digital might be interesting, and something a bit wacky - a son of Westmead Hawk - maybe Westmead Diver - very interesting.

Hi Ben
Thanks for your comments mate. I am definitely not an expert, and am learning every day. I am an enthusiast and happy to be described as such.
My two litters by Maldini could fit the bill of the dogs you are looking for as the two dams were stayers in the making before injury struck but they are unproven dams and nothing is actually available for sale from them.
I have a couple of Vieri bitches out of an early paced dam so hard to know what they will be either.
I will of course keep you in mind when something comes up that fits the bill. Keep reading the blog and thanks again.

Hi Frank - you must go down to the Droopys. Give them a call on 051 387267 a day in advance - they are always very welcoming. They are very busy so ask when is best.

Was thinking of heading up but too much on here Slick Sioux and Freddy Mac will be worth a punt
Posted by: johnny moyles | Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 21:15
Got 4/5 about Sioux Johnny ; ) What a bitch.
Freddy Mac is a dead set railer so may re-coup if he gets his draw.
Was nearly a very good night but Romeo Maldini got badly hampered when challenging at the last!

Dear Johnny,
I am beginner in greyhound racing and I bought my first puppy with this pedigree: Dam:Go wild lisa, Sir:Westmead lark. What do you think about it? Are puppies with some potencial? People say my junior is extremely fast, but I dont know. My target is hapiness of dog:-). Nice web and you are all very nice people.Katerina (Czech republic)

hi johnny do you know of any trainers looking to take on kennels hands on a part time to full time basis?
Posted by: Ben Travers | Saturday, May 09, 2009 at 13:07
Hi Katerina
Thanks for your kind comments.
I like the look of that breeding - a 4x4 of Mustang Jack on the dam lines therefoe doubling up that great brood bitch Westmead Fairy.
I like the way Mustang Jack broods have thrown so I would say a bitch from this breeding might be a nice brood.
Best of luck.

Sorry Ben I dont
Do you get the Sporting Press?
There are often ads in the classifieds for staff
Posted by: johnny moyles | Saturday, May 09, 2009 at 14:10
Hi John,
Wondering what you think of Shelbourne Aston vs. Fear Zafonic to my bitch Jet Fuel Jenny including your reasons for your choice?
Thanks,
Greg
Posted by: Greg Lidstone | Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 14:05
Hi Greg
Any particular reason you have picked two dogs that a) are still racing and b) are unproven?
Obviously the maldini factor across the dingle bitches would have some sway.
Let me have a closer look and come back to yoy.
Hope all is well
john

hows it going johnny.
I am interested in buying a greyhound and it will be my first dog so im just looking for some advice!!.. I would like to buy a dog, at about 10-12 months. Im living in dublin and would love to see my dog race at shelbourne. I rang paul hennessy about training fees etc, im just wondering what is the best age for a pup to be schooled and get ready for the track?
Looking forward to hearing from you
Thanks man
Posted by: Sean | Sunday, August 02, 2009 at 01:02
thinking of getting into greyhounds have you any advice and even more so any information on were we could get a dog to race
Posted by: sean haughian | Sunday, August 02, 2009 at 15:49
It all depends what you are looking for Sean - you can pay top dollar or cheaper.
If you are getting Paul Hennessy to train it I suggest you buy at the top of the market as he will be charging premium rates for training - no point giving him a grader.
Buying a pup at 10-12 months is fraught with problems as at a year old you will have an idea of the pup's ability so you need to trust the seller.
I would suggest calling the likes of the Dunphys in Portlaw and tell them what you would like to spend and they will tell you if they have anything suitable.
Posted by: johnny moyles | Sunday, August 02, 2009 at 17:22
Ah yeah i know what ya mean, thanks alot.
So could i trust dunphys in portlaw to sort me out with a dog that can more than likely qualify at the tracks? Do you know of any trainers near dublin that can train the dog?
Cheers
Posted by: Sean | Sunday, August 02, 2009 at 17:57
Do you have a contact number for the dunphys?
Posted by: Sean | Sunday, August 02, 2009 at 18:36
In Dublin Liam O'Rourke would come highly recommended, and Lar Kinsella. Call Harolds Cross and they will give you their numbers.
Dunphys number 051 387267

Hi Johnny I have just purchased a bitch pup by Droopys Scolari/Fintans Gwennie born9/8/09 will be ready to collect in about 4 weeks after its been earmarked and vaccinated, do you have any room for rearing it, if not can you recomend anyone in England, as my son and I would like to visit her and watch her progress as she developes Thanks Dave
Posted by: David Philp | Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 23:16
byron - looks like it will be a litter of early pacers anyway - paolo coelho was a cracking dog
barjees - sorry mate nothing suitable at the moment
David - i know the breeding as a chap on the nuts forum bred the litter - good breeding, strong damline. Unfortunately I have no room for rearing now and I wouldnt really have a clue about rearers in England - have heard good things about John Mullins, and I think Paul Sallis is starting something - he has a website I think.
Posted by: johnnymoyles | Thursday, October 01, 2009 at 21:03
Hi Johnny Thanks for the information will try getting in touch with John or Paul Thanks again Dave
Posted by: David Philp | Friday, October 02, 2009 at 07:09
Paul Sallis has just joined Nottingham from Hall Green, he has quite a few very decent dogs. The training and rearing facilities look very good on his website and he is very central in Overseal Derbyshire.
