Doing The Pools

Does anyone still do the pools?  Since I discovered fixed odds betting on football years ago I haven't thought of doing a coupon.  Back then as I remember betting of football was limited to trebles, and before that I think it was banned.

Anyway, I see a few nicely matched games this weekend in the Premiership and will play them as draws individually, and will do a nice little Yankee on the side too.

NFL Week 4: Jets to beat Cardinals

I will be stateside this weekend taking in the Jets v Cardinals at the Meadowlands.  Jets are 1win from 3 compared to the Arizona visitors 2 wins from 3, and Arizona will go off favourites. But I think there were promising signs in the Jets defeat to Washington last weekend and will have a little bet.

If they lose, I guess I can just watch the Jets teamleaders - the Flight Crew. I think Michael O'Leary at Ryanair is missing a trick.

YARMOUTH TONIGHT - East Anglian Derby Final on Sky

A real cracker of a card tonight at Yarmouth in support of the Betfair East Anglian Derby Final worth a superb £20,000 to the winner.  Ninja Janie will go off a hot favourite but I think he has a biatch of a draw - he doesn't normally 'ping' although with Charlie Lister you wouldn't bet against the maestro getting Jamie out when it matters.

I prefer to stick my hard earned on Sussex Cup here Droopys Carvalho out in trap 6 who should avoid the inevitable melee at the first bend and go on to a comfortable victory.  Available at 11/4 this morning with Betfred - GET ON!

I am trying to regain my lead at the top of the Sky Sports League Table after Peter Meldrum knocked me off last time out.  Meldrum has selected 7 tonight which is uncharacteristic, so I have a good chance of catching him if I am on form.

Small plays but a winning weekend

Only had the two bets - Man United to get a draw at Chelsea (9/4) and the Cowboys to get beaten in Green Bay.

United managed to get a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, but the Cowboys proved they are worthy favourites for Superbowl glory with a good 27-16 victory over the Packers.  Aaron Kampman didn't get to grips with Tono Romo who was 30 passes for 17 completions and 260 yards.

Chelsea v Man Utd - Stalemate on the cards

Nothing between these sides and I think 0-0 looks a possibility.  Defenses will certainly come out on top although with the likes of Berbatov and Ronaldo on the field a goal is always possible.

Recommendation: Draw 9/4 (Ladbrokes)

NFL Week 3: Dallas to come unstuck

My team the Dallas Cowboys are the clear favourites to win the Superbowl and are long odds on to win at Green Bay tomorrow night.  I'm not convinced.  Cowboys have a brillant record against the Packers but I think Packers fans will have a good year and fancy the home side to win.

Key man tomorrow is Packers' Aaron Kampman - if he can get to superstar Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo a few times the Packers will win.  Kampman has more sacks to his name (30) in the last 2 seasons than any other NFC player.

Recommendation: Green Bay Packers Win 6/4 (Boylesports)

Spurs at Evens HT&FT

Spurs have got off to yet another slow start, and although they are up to practically the best Poland has to offer in Wisla Krakow, I think Spurs will finally click tonight and a rout is on the cards.

Recommendation: Spurs HT & FT Evens (Paddy Power)

I think Aston Villa were comfortable against Spurs on Monday but although I won't be playing on their match tonight, I think they might struggle - Villa looked woeful up front against Spurs and I can't see them scoring too many. A goalless draw looks likely but I will just take a watching brief

Back to reality

After my tremendous result on Shelbourne Aston in the Derby, my year to date profit stands at €38.02.  My August balance was boosted to a profit level €36.82. But it's September now and I am at a loss of -€10.35 for the month.  The Jets let me down for a nice treble after the Giants and Cowboys won their part of the bet for me, but the Jets were beaten by the strong Patriots defence. Derby Final Night itself returned a loss of €0.92 for me although my ante-post bet on Aston was very rewarding(14/1). Where can I make gains this month?  I will steer clear of the Laurels at Cork - a real tricky competition to make money in.  There is a good meeting at Belle Vue tomorrow night and the Yarmouth Derby Final is next week on Sky. The Premiership is up in the air at present and definitely not a medium for betting until things settle down a bit. I have a number of pending bets that could improve my yearly book- all in football which has not been too profitable so far this year: Adebayor first player to score 10 PL goals 12/1

Got a hatrick at the weekend - Zaki and Defoe leading on 4 goals - would be big value at 12s
