Tyrur sure-Lee can't be beaten in Golden Jacket

Tyrur Lee, bidding for an eight-timer, has trap 6 in tomorrow night's Golden Jacket Classic Final worth €40,000 to the winner at Galway.  A true middle runner, he won in stripes in his quarter final, and he was nearly four length faster than his opponents tomorrow night when making all to win his semi-final in a brilliant 31.16.

A stunning 34 wins from 76 starts says it all. Only 4 of these were from trap 6.  But putting it into context only 8 of his 76 starts have been from the outside box - so his 50% stikerate from this trap is very encouraging.  More importantly he has the slow starting Kerrydale Celt immediately inside him and although the promising Mardocs O Shea is in the 4 box, I think Lee will have flown and will be away and gone at the first bend.

I have decided to make Tyrur Lee my charity bet this weekend.  The bank is standing at €68.18 but It recieved a big boost this week when Paul Watkins donated his €50 free bet from the Irish Derby Tipping Competition to the fund, so the balance is now €118.18.

Tyrur Lee is 5/4 with Bruce Betting so I am going to have €40 on Tyrur Lee to bring home the bacon tomorrow night - if you can't make it, there is a 90 minute broadcast on Setanta Ireland tomorrow night.

Of the four dog tips I gave at the weekend two won well. Soviet Bugatti won at 7/2 and Tyrur Lee at Evens to give me a nice profit on Saturday night.  Killough Belles and Droopys Lotto were both eliminated from the Oaks.

Ante Post Selection Droopys Quinta (12/1 EW) is almost certainly the fastest bitch in the final - if a little hit and miss from traps. But as we know there is more to winning than being fast.  You need to trap well, track well, show bottle and have a bit of luck too.  Well she has no margin for error from the red jacket next Tuesday night at Wimbledon in the William Hill Oaks Final (LIVE ON SKY).

The four inside runners are all sired by Droopys stud dogs, but the outside 2 must be odds on to win between them.  Favourite Dangerous Lady (a litter sister to Irish Derby Finalist Advantage Johnny) should have a sol around the outside, whilst Ravello Drive can give Austrlian import sire Crash his first Classic victory.  For me, I think Meenala Amy has a big say at 10/1.  Running at the top of her game, if she paces up like she can, 10/1 will look HUGE.

NFL Week 15: Dallas to beat the Giants

Dallas so close in Pittsburgh - but no cigar. Now for the Giants.

I had the Cowboys to beat Pittsburgh on Sunday night at a standout 29/20.  Dallas defence was as good as it has been all year and shut Pittsburgh down.

Going into the final quarter they held a strong 13-3 lead. Enter Tony Romo.  He made a couple of disastrous errors(it was cold I know....), and the Steelers got 2 touchdowns in the last 5 minutes, one off a Romo wild throw.  I have to say I was disappointed but I wont beat myself up as I called it fairly well. I have had a couple of 4th quarter winners go my way this season so I will take it on the chin.

To make matters worse, my 'saver' went down the pan. I took the Evens that there would be more than 38 pints. There were 33.  And if it wasn't for the Cowboys steely defence in the first half when there were only 6 points, I would be home.

Onwards and upwards.

Dallas Cowboys face the Superbowl champions and this year's favourites the New York Giants this Sunday in what should be a close game - on paper.  But I don't see it that way at all.  Cowboys were outstanding for three quarters against Pittsburgh - including a great performance from rookie running back Tashard Choice(in for Marion Barber) - and I can see the form continuing.

At the end of the day the Cowboys must win to keep their post-season hopes alive.  New York are home and hosed and have won the Conference.  I predict the Cowboys to win and win handily. And if I had to pick a player with so much to prove, I would say Terrell Owens (pictured)is due a BIG game in front of the Dallas fans. If Romo is on form, expect a lot of 'T.O.' on your screens.

Coral Essex Vase : Brickfield Dream warms the layers' cockles on a cold night in Romford

The Ernie Gaskin Jr. trained Boherduff Light dog Brickfield Dream scuppered most punters' bets when he led all the way and deservedly won the Essex Vase last week and though the odds of 8/1 made this dog the rank outsider, nearly everyone I know thought he would lead in this race.

I was back on form with my selections, and although I only played in 4 races, one obliged at odds of 5/2 (I took 7/2) and the other deadheated for first at a smashing 7/1 (I took 8s) making a very good profit on teh night of +€6.00.  I am assured of a profit for the year on the Sky races, ok a very small profit in the grand scheme of things, but hardly anyone makes money on the Sky races long term - look at the 'pundits' in the Racing Post.

Going into the last broadcast of 2008, the English Oaks Final, the winner has yet to be decided.  Myself, my mate Jimbo, and Peter Meldrum are separated by less than five euro, and although Jimbo didn't participate until late in the year, his form means he must be the favourite to land the crown!

The battle to avoid ownership of the wooden spoon over Christmas is even closer, with Tony Bullen, Richard Birch and Jonathon Kay covered by just over four euro.

NFL Week 14: Cowboys to win at Pittsburgh

Two divisional leaders meet in Pittsburgh tomorrow night and this is a mouthwatering clash.  They haven't faced each other for a few years and both sides are looking to cement their positions and maintain the form going into 'post season'.

Two highly attacking teams mean we could be in for a lot of endzone action and I think th emake up is for a lot of points. I also think the Cowboys will have too much in the tank for the Steelers.

Tonight's Dogs

I'm already on record tipping Danmar Pudsy to win tonight's Champion Bitch Stake Final at Thurles.  There is superb fare on offer on both sides of the Irish Sea, with the English Oaks at the Quarter Final stage, the National Puppy Stake also down to the last 24, the Golden Jacket down to the Semis, and a plethora of good racing everywhere.

Tyrur Lee has a tremendous draw in the second semi final of the Golden Jacket tonight, and has to be the selection. He should make the bend and lead all, with Droopys Teabag the main threat.

Up in Dublin I like the look of Soviet Bugatti. He won last week in good style in only his second start, and the fact that Romance Alsation is drawn in red will give Bugatti a real chance. He looks the sort of dog that has a huge stride and makes great ground down the back straight. A real eyecatcher and sure to be a decent price tonight. The 3/1 with Ladbrokes is tempting but I will play at SP.

In the Oaks at Wimbledon, Killough Belles looks good in her heat, and is backable this morning at 11/8 with Bet365.  And another one I think is value is Droopys Lotto who is 2/1 with Totesport but generally 6/4.

William Hill English Oaks 2008

Starting tonight at Wimbledon, the bitches classic begins in earnest. 4 runs over 2 weeks in December will sort the, er ladies from the girls, and the final will be covered on Sky two weeks tonight.

I think one bitch has scope for a big play this year. Droopys Quinta, 12/1 with Paddy Power, sizzled on her debut at Wimbledon, and in between has ran well if not exactly living up to expectations. She ran at Romford in the Puppy Cup and made the final. That was over 400metres. The Oaks is 480.  She will love the extra yardage(metreage?) and the long run up at Wimbledon.

She needs to be backed Each Way at these odds - Seamus Cahill's daughter of Droopys Vieri is sure to keep qualifying.
