It's hotting up in Miami and now I think push will come to shove and the likes of Novak Djokovic(right) - and Andy Murray on the strength of last night's scrappy win - will be tested.
Novak faces Tomas Berdych this afternoon (4pm GMT) and I am sorely tempted to back the Czech. He is a lip-licking 18/5 with Boylesports to win the match - I wouldn't put anyone off that price. But Djokovic is the World No.3 and on his best from would destroy Berdych. But he is not on his best form.
I am going to 'get creative'. I think Bredych could pull off a shock - but wouldn't put the kennels on it. Instead I think he is well capable of taking a set of the Serb and for that reason I am advising a bet that comprises 3 seperate small bets - in other words 1/3 of a point on each of the possible scorelines that would see Berdych getting on the scoreboard : Djokovic 2-1 (7/2 Stan James 1/3pt); Berdych 2-0 (13/2 Ladbrokes 1/3pt); Berdych 2-1 (13/2 Ladbrokes 1/3pt); This will pay either 1.17/1 or 2.17/1.
Recommendation: BERDYCH TO WIN A SET
I mightn't hit the target tonight but I will soon - Djokovic is on his way home in the next couple of days.
As for the Roddick Monfils match I think Roddick is too short at 4/9 but he should win
Recommendation: NO BET
SONY ERICSSON EVENT RECORD: 3 SETTLED BETS: 2 WINS : PROFIT 1.36pts
MANABOUTDOG TENNIS LEDGER: 38 SETTLED BETS: 17 WINS: PROFIT 13.72pts
2009: 22 SETTLED BETS: 9 WINS: LOSS -1.96pts
2008: 16 SETTLED BETS: 8 WINS: PROFIT +15.68pts
Novak won easy 6-3 6-2
Berdych had a chance to go 3-1 up in the 2nd but he was not able to hold his serve today
i'll get Novak tomorrow ;)
